The stereo photographs I will describe need to be viewed through two color filters, a red filter for the left eye and a green (or blue) filter for the right eye. The stereo effect works well for closeups; it does not work as well for shots incorporating distant subjects, such as landscapes. Photos like this are sometimes called anaglyphs.
So that you can see what we're working towards, here's a sample photo. Remember you need to have a red filter between your left eye and the picture, and a green or blue filter for your right eye, or it will just look odd.:
